[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 의령군은 기존 의병박물관이 위치한 의령읍 중동리 482번지 일원에 제2전시관 증축공사를 착공했다고 7일 밝혔다.
의병박물관 제2전시관은 지상 2층, 연면적 990㎡ 규모로 1층에는 기획전시실, 어린이박물관 등이 2층에는 상설전시실 등이 건립될 예정이다.
현재 의병박물관이 임진왜란 의병 중심을 테마로 한 전시라면, 제2전시관은 구한말에서 일제강점기 독립운동기까지 전체 의병테마를 확충한 전시로 나라사랑 정신이 깃든 품격있는 의병종합박물관으로 탄생할 전망이다.
한편 이번 의병박물관 제2전시관 증축은 오태완 군수의 민선8기 군수공약사업으로 문화체육관광부의 문화시설확충을 위한 공립박물관 건립지원 국도비 포함 총 57억원의 사업비가 투입되어 추진되는 사업이다.
제2전시관 증축을 위해 군은 지난 2020년 문화체육관광부 공립박물관 설립타당성 사전평가를 통과했고 2023년 3월 의령군관리계획 실시인가를 거쳐 6월 본격 착공에 들어가게 됐다.
오태완 군수는 “의병박물관 증축을 통해 의병의 성지인 의령군에서 숭고한 의병 정신의 시작과 끝을 오롯이 느낄 수 있도록 하겠다”고 말했다.
의병박물관 제2전시관 개관은 2024년 6월 1일 의병의 날을 목표로 하고 있다.
