브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 지난달 말 강원도 고성 제진검문소를 무단으로 통과하려면 민간인에게 공포탄을 발사하며 저지시킨 초병이 사단장 표창과 함께 4박5일 포상휴가를 받았다.
12일 군 당국에 따르면 육군 제22보병사단(율곡부대) 사단장은 최근 오토바이를 타고 검문소를 통과하려던 민간인 3명을 제지시킨 A상병(19)과 B일병(20) 등 당시 검문소에서 근무했던 초병 2명에게 사단장 표창과 4박5일 포상휴가를 주기로 결정했다.
22사단장은 "초병의 모범을 보인 사례"라며 "어떤 상황에도 침착하게 훈련받은대로 실전에 임해달라"고 당부했다고 한다.
또한 당시 무단침입을 저지한 C상사와 D대위·E소령 등 간부 3명도 사단장 표창과 4박5일 포상휴가를 받았다.
지난 6월 25일 강원도 고성 민간인통제선을 지키던 초소에서 근무 중이던 A 상병과 B 일병은 민간인 3명이 오토바이 2대에 나눠 타고 출입 의사를 밝히자 이를 막아섰다.
초병들은 규정상 오토바이 출입은 제한된다는 점과 검문소 통과를 위해서는 비무장지대(DMZ) 출입사무소에 사전 신청해야 한다고 고지했음에도 민간인들은 욕설까지 해가며 막무가내로 출입하려 했다.
이에 초병은 메뉴얼에 따라 정상적으로 이들을 제지하고 신병 확보에 나섰다. 이 과정에서 초병들은 위협을 가하는 민간인을 제지시키기 위해 공포탄 2발을 하향 발사하기도 했다.
한편 군사경찰은 이 민간인 3명에 대한 조사를 이어가고 있다. 군사경찰에서 조사가 마무리되면 이들은 민간경찰로 인계돼 다시 조사를 받게 된다. 이들은 당시 군인들이 '과잉 대응'했다고 주장하는 것으로 전해졌다.
