[브레이크뉴스=양영석 기자] 밀양시는 지역 신소득작물 재배 실증을 위한 ‘새기술실증시범포’에서 애플망고를 첫 수확했다고 20일 밝혔다.
애플망고는 품종명 어윈으로 인도, 베트남 등 동남아시아가 원산지인 아열대과일이다.
일반 망고와 달리 껍질이 사과처럼 붉어 애플망고로 불리며, 국내에서는 2000년대 초 제주도에서 재배를 시작했다. 경남에서는 2011년 통영을 시작으로 함안, 김해 등 농가에서 재배를 하고 있다.
국내산 애플망고는 비싼 가격에도 수입산보다 경쟁력을 갖추고 있다.
수입산 망고는 검역을 위해 증열처리를 하고, 현지에서 덜 익은 상태에서 수확하기 때문에 당도와 풍미가 떨어진다.
