특히 올해는 처음으로 식물원 2관 야간 미디어쇼를 준비해 지역의 문화재와 함께 사계절을 표현한다. 수막새, 에밀레종, 석굴암의 부처상, 천마총의 천마가 차례로 나오며 계절마다 다른 특징을 보여준다.
나무에 경주 문화재를 대표하는 요소를 담아 계절감을 북돋았으며, 나무와 화단의 스크린을 활용해 자연의 치유와 회복의 모습을 제공한다.
여기에 달빛광장(느티나무광장), 신라광장(잔디광장), 사랑의 길(녹색관광탐방로), 팔색정원(메타세콰이어 사색의 길) 이벤트를 더해 방문객들의 호기심을 자아낸다.
달빛광장은 달빛을 테마로 달과 토끼 등이 어우러지는 조명을 연출하고, 신라광장은 신라를 테마로 신라인의 찬란한 문화를 빗댄 화려한 연화벤치, 보물탑, 천마, LED장미 등의 조명을 선보인다.
사랑의길은 사슴 조형물과 LED장미가 어우러진 포토존이 설치돼 있으며, 팔색정원은 메타세콰이어를 비추는 화려한 조명을 만들어 낸다. 또 야외 음악분수도 연장 운영해 볼거리를 제공할 계획이다.
이규대 동궁원장은 “경주는 이번 야간개장으로 동궁원과 보문단지 일대를 찾은 발길이 늘어 지역 경제 활성화에 많은 보탬이 되길 바란다” 고 말했다.
