유종필 국민의힘 관악갑 당협위원장은 최근 자신의 저서 <세계도서관기행>이 중국(중국어판)에서 출간되었다고 밝혔다.(사진).
일본, 타이완에 이어 세 번째로 해외 번역 출간된 <세계도서관기행>은 미국, 유럽을 비롯하여 세계 유수의 도서관에 비치되어 국제적 가치를 인정받고 있는 것으로 알려졌다.
출판사측은 “국회도서관장을 역임한 유종필 위원장은 10여 년 동안 세계 16개국 70여 개의 위대한 도서관을 심층 탐방하여 책으로 엮었다. 단순한 도서관 소개를 넘어 세계의 도서관에 얽힌 역사와 철학, 역사적 인물, 흥미로운 스토리에 중점을 두었다”고 소개하고 “유종필 위원장은 관악구청장 재임(2010~8) 시 ‘지식문화도시 관악’을 비전으로 내걸고 ‘걸어서 10분 거리 작은도서관’ 사업을 비롯, 민관 합동으로 다양한 독서문화운동을 벌였다. 그 결과 8년 재임 동안 △도서관 5개에서 43개로 △등록회원 73,000여 명에서 171,000여 명으로 △장서 221,000 권에서 662,000 권으로 △이용자 989,000 명에서 1,904,000 명으로 △상호대차 배달 3,000 권에서 451,000 권으로 증가했다. 독서동아리 지원 사업을 벌여 이 기간에 서울시 전체의 30%가 넘는 550여 개의 독서동아리가 관악구에 생겨나 활발한 활동을 하고 있다”고 전했다.
출판사측은 “유종필 위원장은 도서관 발전과 독서문화 진흥 공로로 황조근정훈장과 2011 올해의 출판인상(한국출판인회의), 대한민국 지식대상(행정안전부-매일경제, 기관 수상), 좋은자치단체장상(범시민단체연합)을 수상했으며, 저서 <세계도서관기행>은 문화체육관광부 우수도서와 추천도서로 선정된 바 있다”고 덧붙였다.
