브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 한동훈 법무부 장관은 18일 이재명 더불어민주당 대표가 단식 중 병원에 이송됐음에도 검찰이 두번째 구속영장을 청구한 것과 관련 "수사받던 피의자가 단식으로 자해한다고 해서 사법시스템이 정지되는 선례가 만들어지면 안 된다"고 밝혔다.
한동훈 장관은 이날 교섭단체 연설을 듣기 위해 국회를 찾은 자리에서 "소환통보받고 시작하는 단식은 처음 봤다"며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "과거에도 힘 있는 사람들이 처벌을 피하려고 단식, 입원, 휠체어를 타는 사례들은 많이 있지 않았느냐. 국민들께서도 어디서 많이 본 장면 같다고 생각할 것이다"라며 "그렇지만 성공하지 못했다"고 말했다.
이어 그는 "과거 정치인들은 단식할 때 분명한 목표가 있었다. 왜 하는지가 분명했고 그것을 잘 설명했다. 하지만 (이재명 대표는) 단식을 왜하는지 목적을 설명하지 못하고 있지 않나. 명분이 없다는 걸 아니까 손에 잡히는 물건 아무거나 잡아서 집어던지듯이 단식 시작할 땐 없던 총리 해임, 내각 총사퇴나, 탄핵 같은 맥락 없는 얘기를 쏟아내고 있는 것 같다"고 주장했다.
한 장관은 특히 이재명 대표를 향한 검찰 수사와 관련 "정치, 민주당과 무관한 이재명 개인의 범죄 혐의 수사"라며 "다수당이 권력을 이용해 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 개인의 비리를 옹호하는 것을 국민들은 최악의 권력남용이라고 생각할 것"이라고 비판했다.
한편 서울중앙지검 반부패수사1부(부장검사 엄희준)는 이날 오전 특정경제범죄 가중처벌 등에 관한 법률 위반(배임)과 위증교사 혐의 등을 받고 있는 이재명 대표에 대한 두번째 구속영장을 청구했다. 단식 19일차인 이 대표는 이날 오전 건강 악화로 병원으로 이송됐다.
