브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 지난 3월, 정부는 국민의 통신비 완화를 위해 데이터 30GB를 무료로 제공한다고 발표했지만 이는 사실상 생색내기용 정책이었다는 지적이 나왔다.
1일 정필모 더불어민주당 의원이 과학기술정보통신부로부터 제출받은 자료를 분석한 결과, 정부가 지난 3월 데이터 30GB를 제공한 것은 국민들이 통신비를 절감하거나 비용 부담 없이 데이터를 추가로 이용하는 효과는 거의 없었다.
과기정통부가 지난 2월 발표한 통신비 부담 완화방안에서 “국민들이 3월 요금제를 하향하는 것으로 변경할 경우, 최저 8000원에서 최대 2만8000원의 통신비 절감이 가능하다”고 밝힌 바 있다.
이 같은 효과가 있기 위해선 요금제 변경에 따른 위약금이 없는 경우여야만 하고, 이용자가 3월 한 달만 요금제를 변경해야 하는 등 충족해야 하는 요건이 까다로웠기 때문에 결국 실제 혜택을 보기엔 어려움이 있었다는 것이다.
이에 정필모 의원은 “과기정통부가 생색내기용으로 데이터 30GB 무료 제공 정책을 발표만 해놓고 그에 대한 분석이나 평가를 전혀 하고 있지 않은 것은 무책임한 태도”라고 지적했다.
그러면서 “‘데이터 30GB 무료 추가 제공’이라는 문구로 실제와 달리 마치 엄청난 혜택을 주는 것처럼 국민들을 기만한 것이라며, 정부는 보여주기식 이벤트는 그만하고, 실질적인 통신비 절감 정책을 내놔야 한다”고 덧붙였다.
