브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 전동킥보드 사고가 지난 2018년 대비 2022년에는 10배 이상 증가한 것으로 나타났다.
5일 이장섭 더불어민주당 의원이 한국교통안전공단으로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면, 국내 전동킥보드 관련 사고는 2018년 225건에서 2022년 2386건으로 급증했다.
연도별 국내 전동킥보드 사고 건수를 보면, 2018년 225건, 2019년 447건, 2020년 897건, 2021년 1,735건, 2022년에는 2,386건으로 매년 큰 폭으로 증가했다.
이에 따라 전동킥보드 사고로 인한 사망자 수도 2018년 4명에서 2022년 26명으로 크게 늘었다.
부상자도 2018년 238명에서 2022년 2,684명으로 무려 11배나 증가했다.
지역별로 보면, 경기도에서 2022년 953건으로 사고가 가장 많이 발생했다.
서울시가 406건, 대구광역시가 152건, 충청북도가 104건으로 뒤를 이었다.
사망자 또한 경기도가 9명으로 가장 많았으며 서울시가 5명, 대구광역시가 3명으로 뒤를 이었다.
이에 대해 이장섭 의원은 “산업부의 규제샌드박스를 통해 전동킥보드 산업이 성장하면서 다양한 부작용도 발생하고 있다”라며 “불과 5년 만에 전동킥보드 사고가 10배가 넘게 증가하고 사망사고가 6.5배 증가했다”라고 말했다.
이어 “정부는 전동킥보드 렌털 업계에서 어떤 방식으로 안전조치를 취하고 있는지 파악조차 못 하고 있다. 국민의 안전을 위협하는 일이 없도록 당국의 철저한 관리와 안전사고예방대책 마련이 시급하다”고 강조했다.
