【Break News in Yangju, Northern Gyeonggi Province】 Reporter Wan-young Kim = Yangju City Corporation (CEO Heung-gyu Lee) announced that the Eco Sports Center was selected as “the 2023 Excellent Sports Facility for the Disabled and the Disabled-Friendly Sports Facility Selection Project” co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Sports Association for the Disabled. It was announced on the 27th that it was selected as an “excellent disabled-friendly sports facility.”
This selection project is carried out every year to spread best practices and promote the spread of a disabled-friendly sports activity environment. This year, document screening, on-site screening, and selection committee meetings will be conducted for sports facilities for the disabled and recreational/professional sports facilities nationwide. Six facilities were finally selected.
The Eco Sports Center was selected in recognition of its efforts to support the use of facilities by the disabled, such as the annual Yangju City Sports Festival for the Disabled, the Yangju City Sports Class for the Disabled, and the provision of a swimming pool and swimming program at the Yangju City Special School for the Disabled. It is scheduled to receive the “Citation from the President of the Sports Association for the Disabled” and the “Bronze Certification for Excellent Disabled-Friendly Sports Facility”.
President Lee Heung-gyu said, “Improving awareness of disabled and non-disabled people begins with equality and human rights.” He added, “We will continue to create an environment where all facilities can be conveniently used by all users, regardless of whether they are disabled or non-disabled, and are respected with equal rights and opportunities. “We will continue to work hard,” he said.
