CJ그룹은 지난 3일 오전 지난해 창립기념일에 타계한 고 손복남 고문 1주기 추모식을 갖고, 이어 오후에는 이재현 회장 주재로 ‘온리원(ONLYONE) 재건 전략회의’를 비공개로 진행했다.
CJ그룹 관계자는 “엄중한 경영 상황을 고려해 CJ그룹 성장에 평생을 기여해온 고인과 선대회장의 경영철학을 되새기며 내실을 다지자는 취지”라고 설명했다. 그룹 차원의 70주년 대외행사는 별도로 없었다.
11월 5일은 CJ그룹의 모태인 CJ제일제당이 1953년 부산공장에서 우리나라 최초로 설탕을 만들기 시작한 날이다. 이병철 선대회장이 창립기념일로 지정했고, CJ그룹은 창립이래 줄곧 이 날을 창립일로 기념하고 있다.
CJ인재원에서 진행된 고 손복남 고문 추모식에는 이재현 회장을 비롯해 이미경 CJ ENM 부회장, 이재환 재산홀딩스 회장, 장손인 이선호 CJ제일제당 식품성장추진실장, 손녀 이경후 CJ ENM 브랜드전략실장, 손경식 CJ그룹 회장 등 일가 친인척과 주요 계열사 CEO 등이 참석했다.
손 고문은 이재현 회장이 평소에 “어머님은 선주(船主), 나는 선장(船長)”이라고 표현할 정도로 CJ그룹의 탄생과 성장에 많은 기여를 한 것으로 알려져 있다. 손 고문은 작년 그룹 창립기념일인 11월 5일에 향년 89세로 타계해 그룹 70주년 창립기념일이 곧 1주기 추모식이 됐다.
CJ그룹은 이날 CJ인재원의 메인 교육홀을 손복남 홀로 헌정해 ‘겸허(謙虛)’ 등 고인이 계승한 기업가 정신을 전파하는 공간으로 사용하기로 했다.
CJ인재원은 이재현 회장이 고인과 어린시절을 보낸 집터(서울시 중구 필동로 26)에 위치해 있다. CJ그룹은 2003년 손 고문이 인재양성을 위해 그룹에 내놓은 공간에 국내 최초 도심형 연수원인 CJ인재원을 개원하고, 그룹의 미래 주역을 양성하고 있다.
3일 오후에는 이재현 회장 주재로 CJ인재원에서 ‘온리원(ONLYONE) 재건 전략회의’가 진행됐다. 이 자리에는 CJ주식회사 김홍기 대표이사와 그룹 계열사 대표이사 및 경영진 30여명이 참석해 그룹의 위기극복과 재도약을 다짐했다.
이 회장은 이 자리에서 “그룹의 성장이 정체된 상황에서 온리원 정신을 되새기는 책임감이 그 어느 때보다 중요하다”며 “반드시 해내겠다는 절실함을 가져달라”고 당부했다.
