박성준 민생당 수석대변인은 4일 논평을 통해 "윤석열 정부는 농산물 가격안정제를 즉각 도입해야 한다"고 밝혔다.
박 수석대변인은 "지난해 쌀값 폭락에 대응한 윤석열 정부의 쌀값 관리 및 조정은 농민들의 불안과 불만만 심화시키고 민생의 첫 번째 산업을 책임지는 농민들을 우롱하는 처사"라며 "쌀값 폭락으로 농민들은 큰 절망과 시름에 빠져 있는데 윤석열 정부는 그저 총선 대비용 미봉책, 그것도 늑장 대응에 지나지 않은 대안만을 내놓았다"고 지적했다.
이어 "윤석열 정부는 쌀값 폭락으로 이어진 정책실패를 시인하고 농민들 앞에 사죄하길 바란다"며 "하루속히 쌀값 폭락을 저지하고 농민들의 원하는 쌀값 정상화를 위해 노력하고 대안을 내놓는 것이 정부로서의 기본 도리"라고 강조했다.
그는 또한 "정부는 올해 쌀값만큼은 20만원선(80kg)을 유지하겠다고 약속했지만, 그 약속이 무색하게 쌀값은 하루가 다르게 떨어지고 있다"면서 "정부가 쌀값 안정화 의지가 조금이라도 있다면 초과생산량에 대한 선제적 시장격리에 적극적으로 나서야 하며, 쌀값이 20만 원 아래로 떨어지면 정부가 농협·민간 RPC 등이 보유한 조곡을 원가에 인수해야 한다"고 말했다.
아울러 "윤석열 정부는 쌀값은 궁극적으로 식량안보와도 직결된다는 것을 명심해야 한다"고 했다.
그러면서 "민생당은 농민들의 걱정과 시름을 걷어내는 정부의 적극적인 역할을 촉구하며, 민생의 첫 번째 산업을 책임지는 농민들의 입장을 먼저 생각하고 정부로서의 기본적인 역할을 소홀하지 말 것을 강력히 촉구한다"고 덧붙였다.
