현대차그룹은 2024 북미 올해의 차 유틸리티 부문에서 총 3개의 차종으로 구성되는 최종 후보(Finalist)에 현대차 코나(EV 포함), 기아 EV9, 제네시스 GV70 전동화 모델이 올랐다고 13일 밝혔다.
기존 2024 북미 올해의 차 유틸리티 부문에는 기아 EV9과 제네시스 GV70 외 볼보 EX30가 최종 후보에 올랐으나, 볼보 EX30의 미국 내 고객 인도가 2024년까지 이뤄지지 않으면서 수상 후보 자격을 잃었고 그 자리를 코나가 차지했다.
이로써 현대차그룹은 북미 올해의 차 수상 발표와 상관없이 유틸리티 부문에서 수상을 확정짓는 쾌거를 이뤘다.
현대차그룹은 지난해에도 EV6가 2023 북미 올해의 차를 수상했으며, 이번 수상 확정으로 현대차그룹은 최근 6년간 다섯 번 수상이라는 기록을 달성했다.

현대차그룹 관계자는 “자동차 시장의 최대 격전지인 미국에서도 지속 성장 중인 SUV 시장에서 현대차그룹 차종이 우수성을 인정받고 조기 수상을 확정해 기쁘다”며 “이번 수상을 계기로 미국 자동차 시장 판매를 견인함은 물론 글로벌 시장에서도 계속해서 좋은 활약을 이어갈 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.
한편, 2024 북미 올해의 차 시상식은 내년 1월 4일(현지시각) 미국 폰티악 M1 콩코스(M1 Concourse)에서 진행될 예정이다.
