[신년사] 최민호 세종시장
창조와 도전 정신으로, 큰 뜻을 품고 미래를 향해 나아가겠습니다.
갑진년 새해가 밝았습니다. 새해 첫날의 아침 해가 우리 시 곳곳에 밝기를 더합니다. 지난해 시민 여러분께서 변함없이 보내주신 응원과 신뢰, 한없이 품어주셨던 사랑으로 우리시는 큰 바다를 건너는 꿈을 세웠습니다. 감사드립니다.
힘찬 도약과 용기있는 도전으로 시정 3년 차의 시작을 알립니다. 행정수도를 뛰어넘는 역사상 가장 창대한 도시가 되겠다는 각오를 다집니다. 국토의 중심에서 자란 우리 세종의 자부심과 희망을 높이겠다 다짐해 봅니다.
내 나라를 부강하게 하겠다는 공직자의 소명을 되새긴 지 어느덧 30년이 훌쩍 넘었습니다. 그사이 우리나라는 세계 역사상 가장 위대한 시대를 창조했습니다. 국방, 경제, 문화 분야 등에서 10위권 이내에 이름을 올렸습니다. 심지어 인구수 5천만 명밖에 되지 않는 한국의 말과 글을 배우는 인구수는 전 세계 언어 중 7번째로 자리매김했습니다.
이제 우리는 세계사의 판도를 좌우할 힘을 가진 선진국의 국민이고, 세종시는 그 선진국의 제2의 수도가 되었습니다. 장대하게 성장한 우리 체격에 걸맞은 마음가짐과 자세를 함양해야 우리는 그토록 바라던 새로운 미래를 이룰 수 있습니다.
따라서 올해 우리 시는 지금까지의 관행과 과거를 답습하는 후진국형 사고방식을 버리고 대대적인 개조를 통해 시정을 이끌어 가고자 합니다.
첫째로, 미래를 경영하겠습니다. 두려움과 실패에 맞서는 도전정신과 불확실한 앞날에 대응하는 창의력을 갖추겠습니다. 빠르게 변화하는 미래를 치밀하게 계획하고 관리하여 실행해 세종시의 것으로 만들겠습니다.
둘째로, 세계를 향해 나아간다는 포부로 업무에 임하겠습니다. 오래된 헌법과 법률 체계, 권력 구조로는 새로운 시대를 살아갈 수 없습니다. 세계적 표준에 부합하는 보편성과 국제적 흐름을 반영하는 포용력을 갖춰야 합니다. 이를 위해 행정수도 지위 확보와 미래전략수도 세종의 완성을 위한 개헌의 노력을 계속해 나갈 것입니다.

역사적으로 세계 각국이 전성기를 맞이할 때, 지도자들은 언어정책으로 나라의 위명을 키웠습니다. 한글과 한국어를 한국인만의 것이 아닌, 세계인이 사랑하는 문자와 언어로 그 쓰임과 가치를 드높이겠습니다.
