브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 신당 창당 행보를 보이고 있는 이낙연 더불어민주당 전 대표가 '민주당 의원 44% 전과자' 발언에 대해 사과했다.
이낙연 전 대표는 9일 자신의 페이스북을 통해 "한 시민단체의 통계를 인용한 발언이었다"며 "그 발언을 정중히 사과드린다"고 밝혔다.
그는 "계산해 보면 44%가 아니라 41%가 맞다"면서 "무엇보다도 그 숫자에는 민주화 운동과 노동운동 과정에서 실정법을 위반한 경우도 꽤 많이 포함된다"고 말했다.
이어 그는 "제가 그 사실을 고려하지 않은 것은 큰 실책이었다"며 "저는 예나 지금이나 변함없이 민주화 영웅들의 희생을 높이 평가한다"고 말했다.
한편, 이낙연 전 대표의 이같은 발언에 민주당 내에선 비난의 목소리가 쏟아졌다.
정성호 의원은 이날 한 라디오와의 인터뷰에서 "본인도 민주화 운동과 노동 운동의 희생의 대가로 여기까지 온 분 아니냐"면서 "노동운동과 민주화 운동을 한 분을 제외하면 (민주당 의원 중 전과자는) 16% 정도"라며 "오히려 노동운동, 민주화 운동이 아닌 일반 범죄로 입건된 경험이 있는 분들은 국민의힘이 더 많다"고 반박했다.
김용민 의원도 "뜬금없이 지역구를 버리더니, 이제는 당을 버리고 동지마저 버리나"라고 비꼬았고, 김남국 무소속 의원도 "서슬 퍼런 독재 정권에 맞서 민주화 운동과 노동운동을 하다가 전과가 생긴 동지들을 향해 ‘44%가 전과자’라는 딱지를 붙이나"라고 비난하기도 했다.

Rep. Kim Yong-min also sarcastically said, "You suddenly abandoned your district, and now you're abandoning your party and even abandoning your comrades." Rep.
