대통령실이 5일 "지난해 불거진 연구개발(R&D) 예산 삭감은 R&D 투자시스템 개혁 과정이었다"며 "내년 R&D 예산은 대폭 증액 예정"이라고 밝혔다.

또 내년도 R&D 투자 방향 관련해 "여러 달 동안 R&D 투자시스템을 개혁해 정부 R&D를 도전·혁신선도형·퍼스트무버형 R&D로 바꿔나가기 위해 노력했다"며 "유럽연합(EU)이 주도하는 '호라이즌 유럽' 준회원국 가입 협상이 진행됐고 현재 타결이 임박했다"고 전했다.

스타이펜드는 학생 연구원이 학업·연구에 전념할 수 있도록 학교가 생활비를 지원하는 제도로 미국·영국·독일 등에서 시행 중이다.
더불어 "과기수석실 산하 연구개발혁신비서관실에서 '혁신선도형 R&D 사업 협의체'에 예산 증액 방안을 검토 중"이라며 "3개 부처 5개 혁신선도형 대표 사업들을 엮어 이들 사이 노하우를 공유하고 관련 제도를 업그레이드하기 위한 협의체를 내주 출범 예정"이라고 설명했다.
