필자는 지난 1979년부터 주간신문에 종사, 오늘(2024년)에 이르렀다. 그러하니, 그 이후의 한국 주간신문 업계의 산 역사 인물 중의 한명이랄 수 있다. 1981년 무렵에는 서울신문에서 발행했던 '선데이서울(당시 김병규 부장 시절)'에도 취재했던 내용을 1년여 간 연재(외부 기고가), 일간신문에 딸린 주간잡지의 특성이 어떠한지를 경험하기도 했다.
직후, 수년 간 일간신문-주간잡지-월간지 등을 상대로 한 프리랜서 생활을 했다. 미국 뉴욕 맨해튼에서 발행된 한국어 신문인 '세계타임스(신계신보-1985-1989년)'에서 재임했다.
1989년에 창간된 주간신문 '토요신문(대판 판형)'의 편집국장, 1993년에 창간된 '일요서울'의 편집국장(타블로이드 판형)으로도 재임 했었다.
이어 1997년 주간신문 '주간현대(타블로이드 판형)'-1998년 주간신문 '사건의 내막(타블로이드 판형)'을 발행인(오너)으로 신문을 창간, 지금(2024년)까지 발행해 오고 있다.
그 중간(2000-2001년)에 일간신문 전국지인 '펜 그리고 자유(타블로이드 판형)'도 1년 6개월 여 동안 발행했었다.
이러하니, 필자는 한국 타블로이드 신문(일간-주간) 발행-편집업계의 강자(?) 중의 한명인 것이다.
이 기간은? 과연 어떠한 기간이었는가? 이 기간, 한국은 박정희-전두환 등이 권력을 찬탈-독재했던, 비정상 국가에서 민주국가로 완벽하게 이전한 기간이었다. 더 획기적인 것은 한국이 경제적으로 급성장, 세계 10대 경제대국으로 진입한 기간이었다. 한국 경제의 '대(大) 융성(隆盛)' 기간이었다.
모든 기록물은 사가(史家)가 역사를 기술 할 때 1차 사료(史料)가 된다. 이 시기를 '국가의 최고기' 또는 '민족의 최고 융성기'라고 한다면, 필자의 매체들이 기록으로 남긴 기사나 글들은 후일에 이 시대의 역사를 기록하는 1차 사료에 해당할 것이다. 필자는 이 사실을 귀하게 여기는 것이다. '최고 국가 부흥기'의 사료(史料)를 생산한 주체(主體)라는 점에서 그렇다.
필자는 이런 중대한 시기의 섬세한 기록자(記錄者)였다. 이런 시기의 신문기자-편집국장-신문발행인이었던 게 운명적이었고, 그 운명을 생각하면, 눈물이 날 정도로 행운아(幸運兒)이었음을 깨닫게 된다.
종이신문 시대가 저무는 시기에 인터넷 신문인 '브레이크뉴스(www.breaknews.com)'를 발행해온 것도, 대단한 행운이다. 브레이크뉴스는 지난 21년 간, 뉴스-칼럼 등 기초정보 100만 건 이상이 탑재(搭載)돼, 인공지능(AI) 시대 원천정보의 보고(寶庫)라 한 수 있다.
