윤석열 대통령이 식목일인 5일 한국판 산티아고 순례길 '동서트레일'의 임기내 조성 및 디지털 기술 접목 산불예방 예측 시스템 구축 등을 약속했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 부산 강서구 명지근린공원에서 열린 '제79회 식목일' 기념식에 참석해 기념사에서 "숲을 지속가능케 관리하면서도 국민들이 편하게 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "불과 반세기 전만 해도 국토는 헐벗은 황무지에 가까웠으나 50년간 산림녹화를 통해 국토면적 대비 산림 면적 규모가 OECD 국가 중 네 번째되는 등 산림강국으로 발돋움했다"며 임업인들 노고에 감사를 전했다.
또 "앞으로 숲을 국민들이 편하게 즐길 수 있도록 하겠다"며 "스페인 산티아고 순례길처럼 국민 여러분들이 즐길 수 있도록 할 것"이라며 도시 숲 조성 확대·전국 유아숲체험원 150개 추가 조성·'동서트레일' 임기내 조성 완료 등을 약속했다. 동서트레일은 국토 동서(충남 태안-경북 울진)를 연결하는 849km 장거리 숲길이다.
이어 "디지털 기술과 접목해 과학적 산불 예방·예측 시스템을 구축하겠다"며 "산불 진화에 필요한 임도를 매년 500km 이상 확충해 산불 피해를 최소화할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
