유권자 부동층이 10%도 남지 않은 상황에서 출마자와 비례 위성정당에 대한 지지 결심은 이미 섰다고 본다. 그간 표심의 상수는 ‘등 따습고 배부르면 된다’는 국민의 소박한 바람이었다. 보수 우파들은 미군을 등에 업고 멸공 북진 흡수통일론에 단단히 세뇌됐다. 진보 좌파들은 화해와 교류를 통한 연방제 통일 및 평화공존을 따르다 종북 좌빨로 매도됐다. 선거철마다 북풍 공작으로 김영삼, 이회창 등 대선 주자까지 북풍(北風) 총풍(銃風)을 이용해 표심을 왜곡시켰다.
