윤석열 대통령이 9일 꽃게철을 맞아 서해상 중국 어선 불법조업 단속 현장을 찾아 "중국 어선 불법조업 문제는 우리 수산자원 안보란 측면에서 대응해나가야 한다"고 밝혔다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 인천 중구 해양경찰청 서해5도특별경비단을 방문해 불법조업 단속 현장을 점검 후 해경 등 관계기관을 격려하고 단호한 대응을 당부하면서 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "중국과 군사동맹을 맺고 있는 북한도 중국 어선 불법조업엔 강력 단속하는데 그동안 우리가 대중관계를 우려해 그러지 못한 측면이 있었다"며 "오직 국민 안전·이익만을 보고 수산 안보를 지키는 일에 전념해달라"고 당부했다.
윤 대통령은 단속 함정 해경 3005함에 승함해 박생덕 서해5도특별경비단장으로부터 배타적 경제수역과 북방한계선(NLL)에서의 불법조업 중국 어선 단속 현황을 보고받았다.
이어 연평도 인근에서 중국 어선 불법조업을 단속 중인 해경 518함장 이강철 경감과 영상통화를 하며 단속 현황 및 우리 어민 조업 등을 살폈다.
또 강도형 해양수산부 장관·이구성 해군 2함대 2해상전투단장으로부터 향후 범정부적 불법조업 단속 계획을 보고받은 가운데 박철수 경인서부수협 조합장은 꽃게 조업 현황 및 애로사항을 설명했다.
앞서 윤 대통령은 지난 3월 14일 전남에서 열린 국민과 함께 하는 민생토론회에서 '중국 어선이 우리 연근해를 침범해 물고기를 싹쓸이한다'는 여수 어민 호소를 듣고 정부에 강력 단속을 지시한 바 있다.
정부는 지난 3월 25~31일 특별단속을 실시해 불법조업 중국 어선 5척을 나포하고 36척을 퇴거시켰으며 범장망(그물코 크기가 작아 치어까지 잡는 불법 싹쓸이 어구) 어구 20틀을 철거했다.
