세종시가 해외유학생을 선발해 글로벌 인재로 키우는 정책을 추진한다.
이를 위해 세종시는 (재)세종인재평생교육진흥원과 함께 김기훈 씨와 신주민 씨 등 2명을 올해 해외유학생으로 선발하고, ‘2024년 세종시 해외유학생 장학증서 수여식’을 개최해 지역을 대표하는 글로벌 인재로 성장을 지원한다고 15일 밝혔다.
해외유학생은 지역의 우수 인재를 글로벌 인재로 양성하고자 해외유학을 지원하는 제도로, 해외 학교 입학허가 취득 시 1인당 1년 최대 5000만 원, 최대 2년까지 지원한다.
지원 대상은 세종시에 주소를 두고 있는 관내 대학교 졸업자(졸업예정자 포함)로, 학업성적 등 요건을 갖춰 신청한 지역 청년 가운데 서류심사와 심층면접 등을 거쳐 올해 처음으로 2명이 선정됐다.
최종 선발된 학생은 관내 고려대를 졸업한 김기훈 학생과 홍익대를 졸업한 신주민 학생으로, 올해와 내년 미국으로 건너가 각각 스포츠경영 및 융합공학 분야 석사과정을 밟을 예정이다.
세종시와 진흥원은 매년 우수 지역인재를 선발해 지역의 기부금을 활용, 이들의 해외 유학을 지원할 방침이다.
최민호 (재)세종인재평생교육진흥원 이사장은 “우리 지역의 우수한 인재들이 시대를 선도하며, 지역에 기여하는 훌륭한 인재로 성장하길 바란다”며 “앞으로도 다양한 장학 제도를 활용해 지역 인재를 적극 육성해 나아갈 것”이라고 말했다.
