최민호 세종시장이 세종지방법원 설치 관련 법안의 제21대 국회 임기 내 처리를 위해 23일 국회를 방문, 정점식 국민의힘 정책위원회 의장에게 적극적인 협조를 요청했다.
이날 면담은 지난 16일 국민의힘 정책위 의장으로 임명된 정점식 의원을 만나 여당 차원에서 지원을 촉구하기 위해 마련됐다.
정점식 의원은 법제사법위원회 간사이자 법안심사제2소위원장으로 활동하던 중 정책위 의장으로 임명되면서 법사위에서는 제외됐으나 정책위 의장으로 여당 내 입지가 두터운 인물이다.
최민호 시장은 이날 면담에서 지난 7일 세종지방법원 설치를 위한 법 개정안이 법사위 소위를 통과한 것에 대해 감사 인사를 전하며 21대 국회 임기 내 처리가 이뤄질 수 있도록 적극적인 협조를 당부했다.
그러면서 세종시가 실질적인 행정수도로 완성 단계에 이르고 있으나 사법 서비스를 이용하기 위해서는 대전까지 이동해야 하는 불편함을 거론하며 세종지방법원 설치 필요성을 강조했다.
이어 시민의 사법 접근성 및 편의성 향상을 위해서는 세종지방법원 설치가 반드시 필요하고, 이미 법사위 소위 심의 과정에서도 이에 대해 여야 간 합의에 이른 만큼 21대 국회 임기 내 처리를 요청했다.
이에 대해 정점식 정책위 의장은 “그간 최민호 시장님의 노력을 잘 알고 있다”며 “법사위 전체회의 개최 및 법안 통과를 위해 적극 협조하겠다”고 화답했다.
한편 최민호 시장은 세종지방법원 설치 촉구를 위한 국회의원들과의 면담 자리를 마련해 지난 10일에는 소병철 소위원장을 만나 건의했으며 조만간 김도읍 법제사법위원장을 만나 지원을 요청할 계획이다.
