【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=한국수력원자력(사장 황주호, 이하 한수원)은 3일, 4일 양일간 한수원 중앙연구원에서 ‘미국 전력연구소(EPRI) 프로그램 비파괴검사분야 기술교류 워크숍’을진행했다고 밝혔다.

한수원에 따르면 1972년 설립된 EPRI는 전 세계 전력사, 에너지산업체들로 구성된 세계 최대 전력연구소로 한수원은 2008년 EPRI와의 공동연구를 위한 기본협약을 체결하고 원자력 분야 멤버로 가입했으며, 해마다 프로그램별 기술 교류와 각종 연구에 참여해 글로벌 R&D 역량을 습득하고 선진 연구기관과의 소통을 활발히 하고 있다.
이번 워크숍에는 한수원을 비롯한 EPRI 회원사 등 40여 명이 참석해 비파괴검사 적용 방법 및 연구개발 현황 등에 대해 심도 있게 논의했다. 특히, 한수원이 개발한 ‘원전 가동중검사 종합관리시스템’에 대해 소개해 참석자들의 많은 관심을 받았다.
한수원은 이번 워크숍 성과를 기반으로 앞으로 EPRI와 원전 운영 및 건설, 소형모듈원자로(SMR), 신재생에너지 분야에서도 협력을 강화할 예정이다.
신호철 한수원 중앙연구원장은 “한수원은 앞으로도 원전 설비의 건전성을 높이기 위해 비파괴검사 등 각종 기술 개발에 적극 나서는 것은 물론, EPRI와의 협력을 더욱 넓혀나가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (CEO Hwang Joo-ho, hereinafter referred to as KHNP) announced that it held the ‘Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) Program Technology Exchange Workshop in the Field of Non-Destructive Testing’ at the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Institute’s Central Research Institute for two days on the 3rd and 4th.
According to KHNP, EPRI, established in 1972, is the world's largest power research institute comprised of electric power companies and energy industry companies from around the world. KHNP signed a basic agreement for joint research with EPRI in 2008 and joined as a member in the nuclear energy field, and continues to develop technology for each program every year. By participating in exchanges and various research, we are acquiring global R&D capabilities and actively communicating with advanced research institutions.
About 40 people, including KHNP and EPRI member companies, attended this workshop and discussed in depth how to apply non-destructive testing and the current status of research and development. In particular, the introduction of the ‘Comprehensive management system for nuclear power plant in-service inspection’ developed by Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power received much attention from attendees.
Based on the results of this workshop, KHNP plans to strengthen cooperation with EPRI in the areas of nuclear power plant operation and construction, small modular reactors (SMR), and new and renewable energy.
Shin Ho-cheol, head of the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Research Institute, said, “KHNP will continue to actively develop various technologies such as non-destructive testing to improve the soundness of nuclear power plant facilities, and will further expand cooperation with EPRI.”
