5일 경주시에 따르면 이번 방문은 파울 두클로스 주한 페루대사가 앞서 올해 1월 경주를 찾았을 당시 주낙영 시장이 경주시의 물정화기술을 소개하면서 성사됐다.

현재 경주시는 남아메리카 중부 태평양 연안 국가인 페루를 상대로 경주시가 자체 개발한 물정화기술 도입을 추진하고 있다.

이날 파울 두클로스 대사는 에코물센터를 찾아 수질연구동에 설치되어 있는 GK-SBR 시범시설의 하수 정화과정을 직접 견학했다.

특히 파울 대사는 지난해 12월 콜롬비아 라과히라주에 식수보급용으로 설치된 것과 동일한 기술이 적용된 이동식 급속수처리차량에서 음용 가능한 식수가 나오는 모습에 깊은 인상을 받기도 했다.
