25일 경주시에 따르면 푸싯쏨찟 주지사를 단장으로 한 대표단은 피사눌록주, 핏사눌룩시, 태국전시컨벤션뷰로, 태국창조경제진흥원 등 4개 기관이 경주를 찾았다.
핏사눌록주는 태국 아유타야 왕국의 옛 수도로 현재 태국 주요 관광 도시이자 태국중앙정부컨벤션전시청 지정 태국 10대 MICE 도시다.
경주시와 핏사눌록은 이같은 역사·문화적 공통점을 바탕으로 지난 2월 28일 태국 파타야에서 문화관광교류의향서를 체결한 바 있다.
태국 핏사눌록주 대표단의 이번 방문은 경주시와의 본격적인 교류를 위해 기획됐다.
대표단은 26일까지 경주에 머물며 술술페스티벌 참가, 경주문화재단 견학, 경북문화관광공사 및 한국수력원자력 방문 등의 일정을 소화한다.
특히 대표단은 지난 24일 주낙영 시장과의 간담회에서 문화·체육행사 교류, 교육 및 청소년 교류, 경제 분야 및 비즈니스 협력, 관광정책 교류 및 문화유산 보존 기술 공유 등에 대해 긴밀한 논의를 했다.
이 자리에서 푸싯쏨찟 태국 피사눌록 주지사는 “2025 APEC 경주유치 확정에 대한 축하 인사와 함께 따뜻한 환대에 감사드린다”며 오는 9월에 열릴 핏사눌록주 주최 롱보트 대회에 주낙영 시장을 공식 초청했다.
이에 주낙영 경주시장은 “경주와 태국 핏사눌록은 역사·문화적으로 유사하며 양국의 대표 관광·축제·MICE 도시로서의 정체성과 발전 방향이 일치한다”며 “이번 만남을 통해 양 도시가 긴밀한 협력 체계를 구축할 수 있도록 서로 노력하자”고 화답했다.

A delegation from Thailand's Phitsanulok Province visited Gyeongju City Hall on the 24th and had a meeting with Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-yeong to explore ways to cooperate.

Phitsanulok Province is the former capital of Thailand's Ayutthaya Kingdom and is currently a major tourist city in Thailand and one of Thailand's top 10 MICE cities designated by the Central Government Convention and Exhibition Office.
Based on these historical and cultural similarities, Gyeongju City and Phitsanulok signed a letter of intent for cultural and tourism exchange in Pattaya, Thailand, on February 28.
This visit by the Thai Phitsanulok Province delegation was planned for full-scale exchange with Gyeongju City.
The delegation will stay in Gyeongju until the 26th and have a schedule that includes participating in the Sulju Festival, touring the Gyeongju Cultural Foundation, and visiting the Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Organization and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Plant.
In particular, at a meeting with Mayor Joo Nak-yeong on the 24th, the delegation had close discussions on cultural and sports event exchanges, education and youth exchanges, economic and business cooperation, tourism policy exchanges, and sharing of cultural heritage preservation technologies.
At this event, Thailand's Phitsanulok Governor Phitsanulok officially invited Mayor Chu Nak-young to the longboat competition hosted by Phitsanulok Province to be held in September, saying, "I would like to congratulate the city on the confirmation of hosting the 2025 APEC race and thank you for the warm hospitality."
In response, Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young said, “Gyeongju and Thailand’s Phitsanulok are historically and culturally similar, and their identities and development directions as representative tourism, festival, and MICE cities of the two countries are consistent.” He added, “Through this meeting, the two cities will establish a close cooperation system.” “Let’s work together to make it happen,” he responded.
