윤석열 대통령이 2일 김홍일 방송통신위원장 사의를 수용했다.
대통령실 대변인실은 이날 오전 언론 공지에서 "윤 대통령이 김 위원장 사의를 수용해 면직안을 재가했다"며 이같이 전했다.
앞서 김 위원장은 이날 국회 본회의에 본인에 대한 탄핵소추안이 보고되기 전 자진 사퇴 의사를 밝혔다. 더불어민주당은 오는 4일 김 위원장 탄핵소추안을 처리할 계획이었다.
탄핵안이 국회 본회의에 보고돼 24시간 이후부터 72시간 내 표결로 통과되면 헌법재판소 결정이 나올 때까지 방통위원장 직무가 중단돼 방통위 마비 장기화를 막으려는 차원인 것으로 보인다.
이로써 김 위원장은 지난해 12월 29일 임명된 후 6개월여 만에 자리를 떠나게 된 가운데 방통위원장 자진사퇴는 지난해 12월 탄핵 표결 직전 사퇴한 이동관 전 위원장에 이어 두 번째다.
향후 방통위는 이상인 부위원장이 위원장 직무대행을 맡아 1인 체제로 운영된다.
