윤석열 대통령 내외가 8일(현지시간) 미국 하와이주 호놀룰루에 도착해 2박 5일 간의 본격 방미 일정에 들어갔다.
윤 대통령 내외를 태운 대통령 전용기 공군 1호기는 이날 오전 7시 30분께 하와이주 호놀룰루 미 하캄 공군기지에 도착한 가운데 조시 그린 하와이 주지사 내외 등이 나와 환영했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 부인 김건희 여사와 함께 미 태평양 국립묘지를 찾아 헌화 및 참배 후 현지 동포들과 만찬간담회도 갖는다.
또 이틀째인 9일 미 인도태평양사령부를 방문해 군사·안보 현황을 청취 후 장병들을 격려 예정이다.
미 인태사령부는 미군 권역별 통합전투사령부 중 가장 큰 규모로 군사적 중요성 역시 마찬가지인 가운데 주한 미군 역시 함께 배속돼 있다.
대통령실은 "윤 대통령의 인태사령부 방문은 굳건한 한·미동맹 결속을 과시하고 인태 지역 평화·번영을 위한 협력 강화 계기가 될 것"이라고 전했다.
