'2024 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 정상회의' 참석차 미국 워싱턴DC를 방문 중인 윤석열 대통령이 10일(현지시간) 페트르 파벨 체코 대통령과 만나 "신규 원전 사업 참여를 희망한다"며 상호 긴밀한 협력을 이어가기로 했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 월터 E. 워싱턴 컨벤션센터에서에서 파벨 대통령과 정상회담을 갖고 양국 간 실질 협력·역내 및 글로벌 현안 등 관련 의견을 나눈 가운데 지난해 9월 제78회 유엔총회을 계기로 열린 한·체코 정상회담 이후 약 10개월 만의 회동이다.
윤 대통령은 "한국과 체코가 지난해에 이어 올해도 다양한 레벨에서 고위급 교류가 활발히 이어지고 있고 특히 양국 간 교역규모가 4년 연속 최대치를 경신하며 꾸준히 증가하고 있는 걸 기쁘게 생각한다"며 "한국 기업 체코 진출이 더욱 활발해지길 희망한다"고 밝혔다.

이에 파벨 대통령은 "양국이 보편적 가치를 공유하는 민주주의 국가로서 우호 관계를 발전시켜 왔고 이를 토대로 상호 관심 분야에서 실질협력을 더욱 확대해 나가길 기대한다"고 화답했다.
또 "기존 협력 분야를 넘어 디지털·사이버·전기차 배터리·철도·첨단기술 등 분야로 협력을 확대해 나가길 희망한다"고 덧붙였다.
양 정상은 러·북 간 포괄적 전략 동반자 조약 체결을 통해 상호 군사·경제 협력을 강화키로 한 것에 엄중 우려를 표했다.
또 유엔안전보장이사회(안보리) 결의를 위반한 러·북 군사협력과 북한의 계속되는 도발에 국제사회와 연대해 단호히 대처해 나가기로 한 가운데 우크라이나 평화 회복·재건 지원을 위해 계속 협력해 나가기로 했다.
