윤석열 대통령이 16일 오후 '2024 파리올림픽' 기념 행사에 참석해 선수단을 격려했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
정혜전 대통령실 대변인은 이날 저녁 서면브리핑에서 "윤 대통령은 이날 KBS가 여의도공원에서 주최한 '파리올림픽 기념 국민 대축제' 무대에 예고 없이 등장했다"며 이같이 전했다.
이날 행사는 '2024 파리올림픽'에서 기쁨·감동을 선사한 대한민국 선수단을 환영하고 성과를 축하하기 위해 KBS가 마련한 가운데 총 19명 선수단·감독 2명과 3000여 명 시민이 함께했다.
윤 대통령은 공연 관람 관객들에게 방해되지 않도록 수행 인력을 최소화한 채 예고 없이 참석해 파리올림픽 출전 사격·펜싱·양궁·태권도 선수단과 차례로 악수하며 "수고했어요"라고 격려했다.
또 이어진 즉석 인터뷰에서 '2024 파리올림픽' 의미를 묻는 사회자 질의에 "우리 선수들 투혼으로 우리 국민들에게 큰 기쁨·용기·자신감을 불어넣어 줬다"고 답했다.

이어 펜싱 사브르 남자 단체전 금메달리스트 구본길 선수에게 "세련된 매너로 스포츠인다운 모습을 보여준 게 아주 멋있었다"며 격려했고, 탁구 동메달 2개를 딴 신유빈 선수에 "우리 삐약이 신유빈 선수는 간식 먹는 것도 이쁘고 파이팅이 멋져 팬이 됐다"고 말했다.
더불어 '올림픽에 참가한다면 어떤 종목에서 금메달을 따고 싶냐'는 질의에 "학창 시절로 돌아가 좋아했던 운동을 계속한다면 농구·축구·야구를 다 좋아했지만 아마도 야구를 계속하지 않았을까"라고 답했다.

윤 대통령은 행사 시작 전 박민 KBS 사장에게 "선수단이 귀국할 때 인천공항서 환영식을 변변하게 하지 못했는데 KBS가 국민 대축제를 만들어줘 고맙다"고 말한 한편 참모진들에 "대통령으로서 금메달을 딴다면 민생 안정·튼튼한 안보로 따고 싶다"고 말했다.
