대통령실이 23일 일본 후쿠시마 오염 처리수 해양 방류 1주년을 하루 앞두고 "과학적 근거없는 황당 괴담이 거짓 선동임이 밝혀졌으나 근원지 야당이 대국민 사과 없이 무책임한 행태만 계속되고 있다"며 대국민 사과를 촉구했다.
정혜전 대통령실 대변인은 이날 오전 용산 대통령실 브리핑에서 "24일은 야당이 후쿠시마 괴담을 방류한 지 1년 되는 날"이라며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "1년간 정부는 괴담과 싸워 왔다"며 "윤석열 정부는 괴담을 이겨낼 길은 오직 객관적 과학적 검증 뿐이라 믿었다"고 밝혔다.
또 "이를 위해 해양 방사능 조사 지점을 92개소에서 243개소로 확대했고 수입 신고 모든 수산물에 대한 생산지 증명서를 확인해 왔다"며 "지난 1년간 국내 해역·공해 등에서 시료를 채취해 4만 9600여 건 검사 진행 결과 안전 기준을 벗어난 사례는 단 한 건도 없었다"고 전했다.
이어 "핵폐기물·제2의 태평양 전쟁, 이와 같은 야당의 황당한 괴담 선동이 아니었으면 쓰지 않았어도 될 예산 1조 6000억이 과정에 투입됐다"며 "야당이 과학적 근거를 신뢰하고 국민 분열 아닌 민생을 위한 정치를 했다면 사회적 약자를 위해 쓰였을 수 있었던 혈세"라고 강조했다.

정 대변인은 "다행스러운 건 현명한 국민 여러분께서 과학적 근거를 믿고 정부를 신뢰해주셨다는 것"이라며 "대형마트 수산물 매출이 예년 수준이고 수산물 소비가 살아나고 있다"고 전했다.
그러면서 "그럼에도 야당은 반성은커녕 지금도 자극적 발언으로 황당한 괴담·선동만 하고 있다"며 "무논리·무근거·무책임한 행태를 반복하고 있는 건 야당으로 광우병·사드에 이어 후쿠시마까지 국민을 분열시키는 괴담 선동을 이제 그만두겠다 약속하고 지금이라도 국민 앞에 사과하길 바란다"고 촉구했다.

한편 대통령실 관계자는 이날 용산 대통령실에서 취재진과 만나 외국인 근로자에 대한 최저임금 차등화 논란 관련해 "국제노동협약에 따라 최저임금을 제공한다"며 "국내법·국제협약 등을 고려하면서 불법 체류 등 현실적 검토를 토대로 충분한 사회적 논의가 필요하다"고 밝혔다.
