대통령실이 2일 이재명 더불어민주당 대표의 '응급실 뺑뺑이로 사망 사고가 늘었다'는 주장에 "전혀 확인되지 않은 불필요한 주장"이라고 반박했다. 이 대표 등 야권의 계엄령 의혹 제기에 대해선 "나치·스탈린 전체주의 선동정치를 닮아가고 있다"고 비판했다.
대통령실 관계자는 이날 오후 용산 대통령실에서 취재진과 만나 "이 대표가 어제 회담하면서 응급실 뺑뺑이로 죽지 않아도 될 사고가 작년 한해 총발생량을 초과하고 있다는 말을 했다"며 "그 주장은 정부 통계로 전혀 확인되지 않은 것"이라고 반박했다.
그러면서 "응급환자 사망엔 다양한 변수가 있어 소위 뺑뺑이로 사망했는지 확인이 어려워 정부 통계 산출 자체가 어렵고 산출않고 있다"며 "이 대표 주장은 어려운 상황 속 응급의료 현장을 지키는 의료진 사기를 저하시키고 불필요한 국민 불안을 증가시킬 수 있다. 어떤 근거로 말씀하신 건지 궁금하다"고 했다.
정혜전 대통령실 대변인은 오후 브리핑에서 고 윤한덕 국립중앙의료원 응급의료센터장을 거론 후 "만성적 응급의료인력 부족이 만들어낸 안타까운 죽음"이라며 "지난 정부는 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해 의대증원을 추진했으나 개혁은 좌초됐다"고 말했다. 고 윤 센터장은 지난 2019년 응급의료 공백을 막기위해 주 129시간 근무 중 사망했다.
