[브레이크뉴스경기남부=이천 이현준기자] 이천시는 ‘임금님표이천쌀’이 올해의 브랜드 쌀 부문 대상을 수상했다.
지난 3일 신라호텔 다이너스티홀에서 개최된 한국소비자브랜드위원회와 한국소비자포럼이 주최했다.
전국에서도 손꼽히는 도농복합 도시로, 풍부한 자연환경과 뛰어난 농업 기술을 바탕으로 고품질의 쌀을 생산해 온 이천시의 쌀은 조선시대에 임금님께 진상하던 쌀로 유명하고, 탁월한 맛과 찰진 식감으로 우리나라의 대표적인 고급쌀 중에서도 으뜸인 쌀로 알려져 있다.
이천시는 지속 가능한 농업을 목표로 친환경 농법 확대와 농업 인프라 개선에 박차를 가하며, 특히 매월 463가지의 잔류 농약 검사와 디엔에이(DNA) 검사, 성분·품위 검사 등을 통해 품질관리를 강화하여 소비자들에게 좋은 맛과 함께 깨끗하고 안전한 쌀을 제공하고자 노력해 왔다.
김경희 이천시장은 수상 소감에서 “‘임금님표이천쌀’에 대상의 영광을 주신 한국소비자브랜드위원회와 한국소비자포럼 관계자 여러분께 진심으로 감사드린다”라면서 “이천시는 선제적 농업정책에 힘입어 2년 연속 재고 쌀 없이 모두 판매하는 성과를 내고 있다. 대한민국 대표 쌀로서의 위상을 확연히 보여준 결과다”라고 말하고 “대통령실 소속 농어촌?농어업특별위원회 평가 ‘농어촌 삶의 질 최고 도시’로서 앞으로도 농업인을 위한 정책 추진에 더욱 역점을 두겠다”라는 말로 수상 소감을 전했다.
