윤석열 대통령이 9일 방한 중인 얀 페이터 발케넨데 전 네덜란드 총리를 접견하고 상호 전략적 협력 방안을 논의했다고 대통령실이 전했다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오후 용산 대통령실에서 발케넨데 전 총리를 만나 "글로벌 복합위기를 극복해 나가는 데 보편적 가치를 공유하는 양국 협력이 어느 때보다도 중요하다"고 말했다.
그러면서 "지난해 12월 양국이 '반도체 동맹'을 체결하고 협력 장을 확대한 것도 중요하나 ASML 성공 사례를 지켜보면서 기술·문물을 융합해 발전시켜 나가는 네덜란드인 개방·창의성을 더 잘 이해하게 된 게 소중한 수확"이라고 말했다.
또 "보편적 가치를 공유하는 한·네덜란드 협력이 그 어느 때보다 중요하다"며 양국 간 '반도체 동맹' 강화를 위한 발케넨데 전 총리 역할을 당부했다.
발케넨데 전 총리는 "윤 대통령 리더십 하에 대한민국이 글로벌 사회서 책임 있는 역할을 확대해 나가고 있다"며 "양국이 전략적 동반자 관계를 기반으로 상호 전략적 협력을 키워가길 기대한다"고 말했다.
이어 "기후·환경 위기 대응에 한국이 국제적 리더십을 발휘하고 있다"며 "양국 협력에 힘을 보탤 수 있도록 노력하겠다"고 말했다.
윤 대통령과 발케넨데 전 총리는 아시아·유럽 안보가 한층 연계돼 가고 있다는 데 의견을 같이했다.
양측은 내년 6월 네덜란드 헤이그에서 열리는 나토(NATO·북대서양조약기구) 정상회의의 성공적 개최를 위해 협력키로 했다.
