이에 김 의원은 “석연찮은 홍명보 축구 국가대표팀 감독 선임 과정에서의 절차적 하자와 불공정 논란, 축구협회의 소극적인 대처로 인해 대국민적 공분을 사고 있다”며 “지금 대한민국 축구가 위기인데도, 연휴 이후에 창립기념일, 징검다리 평일 휴가까지 적극적으로 챙기는 태도를 보면서 더 이상 축구협회의 발전을 기대하기 어렵다”고 비판했다.
이어 “축구협회가 국회 현안질의를 앞두고 부실한 자료와 허위자료제출 등 비협조적인 행태는 국민과 국회를 기만하는 행위”라며 “요구자료에 불응하거나 부실한 답변자료가 지속적으로 제출될 경우에는 24일 현안질의 이후 추가일정을 다시 잡아서라도 축구협회의 의혹들을 철저하게 파헤치겠다”고 강조했다.
