대통령실이 27일 이시바 시게루 전 자민당 간사장이 차기 일본 총리로 결정된 것에 대해 "한·일 관계 긍정적 흐름을 이어나가기 위해 계속 협력해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
대통령실 관계자는 이날 오후 언론 공지에서 "새로 출범하는 일본 내각과 긴밀히 소통하겠다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
그러면서 "한·일 양국은 자유·인권·법치 가치를 공유하고 안보·경제·글로벌 어젠다에서 공동 이익을 추구하는 가장 가까운 이웃이자 협력 파트너"라며 "정부는 양국이 전향적 자세로 미래지향적 관계 발전을 위해 함께 노력하길 기대한다"고 했다.
앞서 일본 집권 자민당은 이날 도쿄 당 본부에서 열린 총재 선거에서 이시바 전 간사장을 28대 총재로 선출한 가운데 오는 10월 1일 열리는 임시국회 지명 투표를 통해 기시다 후미오 총리에 이어 일본 102대 총리에 취임한다.
일본은 집권 당 총재가 총리를 맡는 구조로 이시바 전 간사장은 결선 투표에서 215표를 얻어 194표를 얻은 다카이치 사나에 경제안보담당상을 21표 차로 제쳤다.
이시바 전 간사장은 후보자 9명이 난립한 총재 선거 1차 투표에서 154표를 얻어 다카이치에 27표 차로 뒤졌으나 결선 투표에서 역전에 성공했다.
온건 보수 성향 이시바 전 간사장은 한·일 역사문제에서 비교적 온건한 목소리를 내온 소위 '비둘기파'로 알려졌다.
