싱가포르를 국빈 방문한 윤석열 대통령이 8일(현지시간) "양국이 함께한 지난 50년이 성장·개척 역사였다면 앞으로의 50년은 핵심 가치를 수호하고 복합 위기를 함께 극복해나가는 연대·협력 여정이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 부인 김건희 여사와 함께 이날 저녁 싱가포르 한 호텔에서 열린 타르만 산무가라트남 싱가포르 대통령 주최 국빈 만찬에서 "내년은 한·싱가포르가 외교 관계를 수립한 지 50년 되는 해"라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "로렌스 웡 총리님과의 정상회담에서 수교 50주년을 맞이하는 내년에 한·싱가포르 전략적 동반자 관계를 수립키로 합의했다"며 "앞으로 양국 협력 지평은 첨단 기술 분야·글로벌 이슈로 확장될 것이며 역내·글로벌 차원 전략적 공조도 더욱 강화될 것"이라고 말했다.
또 양국 협력 역사를 거론하며 "싱가포르 대표적 건축물 마리나 베이 샌즈 호텔은 양국 협력에 빛나는 상징"이라며 "싱가포르에 차세대 국책 사업을 한국 기업이 수주에서 건설함으로써 세계 랜드마크 건축 역사에 한 획을 그었다"고 평했다.

더불어 "대한민국도 싱가포르와의 협력을 토대로 이번 주 한·아세안 정상회의에서 아세안과 최고 단계 파트너십인 포괄적 전략 동반자 관계를 수립할 것"이라며 "우리 두 나라가 힘합쳐 아세안·인태 지역 평화·번영에 더욱 크게 기여해 나가길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.

타르만 대통령은 건배사에서 "싱가포르·대한민국은 아시아의 네 마리 호랑이 중 두 국가로 종종 언급된다"며 "양국 경제적 진전을 포착하는 표현이나 이 표현이 두 나라가 공유하는 더 깊은 포부들을 완전히 담아내진 못한다"고 언급했다.
