[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 지난 9일부터 13일까지 5일간 2만여 명의 진주시민과 관광객들이 참여한 가운데 ‘제128회 진주 전국민속소힘겨루기대회’가 성황리에 마무리됐다고 14일 밝혔다.
이번 대회는 시상금 총 8700만원이 걸려 전국에서 170여 마리의 뛰어난 기량을 갖춘 소들이 출전해 박진감 넘치는 경기를 펼쳤다.
이번대회에서 백두급(801kg 이상)은 진주의 청산이 우승, 한강급(701~800kg)에서는 청도의 화랑, 태백급(600~700kg)에서는 의령의 불산이 각각 우승을 차지했다.
대회 기간에는 초청가수 빈예서를 비롯해 지역가수들의 축하공연과 황금송아지, 세탁기 등 다양한 경품 추첨과 다채로운 행사들로 관람객들에게 즐거움을 선사했다.
박성권 (사)진주소힘겨루기협회 회장은 “이번 대회를 찾아주신 많은 분들에게 감사드린다”며“전통민속놀이 소힘겨루기대회에 지속적인 관심을 가져주시기 바란다”고 전했다.
조규일 진주시장은 “우리나라 소힘겨루기의 효시이자 128회째를 맞이한 진주 전국민속소힘겨루기대회의 성공적인 개최를 위해 애써 주신 모든 분들에게 감사드린다”말했다.
한편 진주 소힘겨루기 놀이는 지난 1884년께 진주성 안팎의 마을 간 소의 우열을 겨루는 마을대항전 형식으로 시작돼 한국 전통민속놀이로 전승되고 있다.
