동국대학교경주병원, 사전연명의료의향서 등록기관 지정

【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교경주병원(병원장 정주호)은 지난 10월 25일 보건복지부로부터 사전연명의료의향서 등록기관으로 지정되어 11월 20일부터 ‘사전연명의료의향서’ 상담 및 등록 업무를 시작한다고 28일 밝혔다.

사전연명의료의향서란, 19세 이상 성인이 향후 임종 과정에 있는 환자가 됐을 때를 대비해 연명의료 또는 호스피스에 관한 의향을 문서로 작성하는 것을 말한다.

희망자는 본인 신분증(주민등록증 또는 운전면허증)을 지참한 후 직접 등록기관에 방문하여 상담 및 사전연명의향서 작성을 통해 신청할 수 있다. 사전연명의료의향서는 연명의료정보처리시스템을 통해 등록 및 관리되며 작성된 의향서는 본인이 원하면 언제든지 변경 및 철회가 가능하다.

연명의료란 임종 과정에 있는 환자에게 심폐소생술, 혈액투석, 항암제 투여, 인공호흡기 착용, 체외생명유지술, 수혈, 혈압 상승제 투여 등 의학적 시술의 치료 효과없이 임종 과정의 기간만을 연장하는 것이다.

정주호 병원장은 “존엄사법 통과 후 삶의 마지막을 편안하고 존엄하게 맞이하기 위한 국민들의 관심이 높아진 만큼 연명의료결정제도에 대한 인식을 높이고 죽음에 대한 자기결정권을 존중받을 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
