【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE(와이즈)캠퍼스 건학위원회는 지난 11월 12일 교내 문무관에서 개최한 2024 WISE Young Camp ‘주인공’이 성황리에 막을 내렸다고 13일 밝혔다.

이번 행사에서 재학생과 교직원 1천8백여 명이 와이즈 영캠프와 불교의 미래를 기원하며 동참해 수계를 받았다. 1부 수계법회 이후 2부 어울림 한마당에서는 동아리 공연, 학생장기자랑, 불교퀴즈대회가 펼쳐졌고, 3부 뮤지션 공연에서는 뉴진 스님의 디제잉 공연과 가수 하하가 무대에 올라 행사장은 뜨거운 축제의 열기로 가득 찼다.
학교법인 동국대학교 이사장 돈관 스님은 이날 수계법회에서 “수계라는 것은 어렵고 먼 곳에 있는 것이 아니라, 자기를 찾아가는 길잡이이며 자기 역할을 다하겠다는 부처님과의 약속이 수계”라며, ”수계는 긴 밤을 밝히는 등불이며, 먼 길을 가는 나그네에게는 양식이며, 혼탁한 물을 깨끗이 맑게 하는 구슬과 같은 것“이라고 설명했다. 이어 ”부처님의 계는 남에게 배우는 것이 아니고 스스로 자신을 지키며 가르치는 것이니 그것이 곧 불자들의 굳건한 생활신조이며 행동강령이다“라고 전했다.
한편 최근 한국 불교계는 다양한 콘텐츠를 통해 젊은 세대의 요구를 적극 반영하고 있다. 이에 동국대 와이즈캠퍼스 불교동아리 소속 학생들이 주도해서 기획한 영캠프 역시 청년 불자들이 함께 모여 마음을 나누고, 불교적 가치를 기반으로 한 즐거운 축제의 장을 성공적으로 마련했다.
2024년에 출범한 동국대 와이즈 불교동아리는 이번 영캠프를 계기로 잠재적인 청년 불자의 발굴을 위한 다양한 불교 행사를 기획할 예정이다.
특히 이번 수계법회를 통해 1천8백여 명의 청년 불자들이 부처님의 제자가 되었으며, 이를 계기로 대학생과 청년층 사이에서 불교의 가르침이 널리 전파되고 불교의 저변을 확대하는 중요한 계기가 될 예정이다.
이번 와이즈 영캠프는 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 영캠프 학생기획위원단이 주도적으로 준비한 행사로, 자승 대종사의 염원과 학교법인 동국대학교 이사장 돈관 스님의 지원으로 대학생들에게 불교의 가르침을 널리 전하고 불교의 따뜻함과 아름다움을 청년들에게 전파하기 위해 추진됐다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus, 2024 WISE Young Camp ‘Protagonist’ Completed

At the precept ceremony held that day, Dongguk University's chairman, Venerable Don-kwan, said, "Precept is not something that is difficult and far away, but a guide to find oneself and a promise with Buddha to fulfill one's role. Precept is a light that illuminates the long night, food for travelers on a long journey, and a bead that clears murky water." He continued, "Buddha's precept is not something that is learned from others, but something that is taught while protecting oneself, and that is the firm life creed and code of conduct of Buddhists."
Meanwhile, the Korean Buddhist community has recently been actively reflecting the needs of the younger generation through various contents. Accordingly, the Young Camp, planned by students of the Dongguk University Wise Campus Buddhist Club, successfully created a place for young Buddhists to gather together and share their hearts and enjoy a festival based on Buddhist values.
Launched in 2024, the Dongguk University Wise Buddhist Club plans to plan various Buddhist events to discover potential young Buddhists using this Young Camp as an opportunity.
In particular, through this water precept ceremony, 1,800 young Buddhists became disciples of the Buddha, and this will be an important opportunity to spread Buddhist teachings widely among college students and young people and expand the foundation of Buddhism.
