[브레이크뉴스=황민성 기자] 경남 사천시는 삼천포해협 죽방렴 어업이 해양수산부에서 2024년 국가중요어업유산 제16호로 지정됐다고 2일 밝혔다.
해양수산부는 어촌의 다원적 자원, 생물 다양성 보존, 활성화 등을 위해 보존할 가치가 있는 유·무형 어업자원을 국가중요어업유산으로 지정·관리하고 있다.
삼천포 죽방렴 어업은 연안의 좁은 물목에 대나무로 만든 “V”자형 발을 설치해 물살의 힘에 실려 오는 멸치 등 물고기를 통 안에 가두어 잡는 전통적인 어업방식이다.
사천시 해협 일원에 총면적 2,690ha에 걸쳐 설치돼 있다.
삼천포 죽방렴 어업은 이번 국가중요어업유산 지정으로 해양수산부로부터 3년간 국가중요어업유산 보전을 위한 어업 유산의 복원과 계승에 필요한 예산을 지원받게 된다.
이번 지정은 시에서 지난해부터 삼천포 죽방렴 어업의 역사성과 전통어업 유산으로서 그 보전의 가치와 중요성을 알리는 데 행정력을 집중했기 때문이다.
특히 서천호 국회의원을 비롯해 경상남도, 삼천포 죽방렴자율관리어업공동체, 지역 주민 등이 혼연일체가 돼 다양한 활동을 펼치는 등 큰 역할을 했다.
서천호 의원은 “사천시와 긴밀히 소통하면서 전략을 마련해 적극적으로 대처한 것이 이번 국가중요어업유산 지정에 큰 힘이 된 것 같다”며 “죽방멸치의 가치와 인지도 상승에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
