5일 경주시에 따르면 이번 새마을지도자대회는 ‘다시 새마을운동, 세계와 함께’라는 슬로건으로 올해 활동 실적을 평가해 유공자 포상을 통한 사기진작과 지역사회 봉사에 대한 노고를 격려하고자 마련됐다.
중부동은 올 한해 이웃과 함께하는 지역 맞춤 봉사 기조 아래 5일장 및 집수리 봉사, 이미용 봉사, 환경정비 실시, 이웃돕기 성금 기탁, 태극기 달기 캠페인 등 다양한 봉사활동을 전개했다.
경주시는 중부동 이외에도 경주시새마을부녀회, 직장공장새마을운동경주시협의회가 각각 최우수상, 경주시새마을회는 특별상의 영예를 안았다.
또 새마을운동 활성화에 힘쓴 유공자에게 수여되는 대통령 표창에는 김진태(새마을지도자경주시황성동협의회), 국무총리 표창은 문명숙(용강동새마을부녀회), 장관 표창은 길인숙(직장공장새마을운동경주시협의회)과 김영미(새마을문고중앙회경주시불국동분회)가 각각 수상했다.
더불어 경상북도지사 상에는 조백수, 최병태, 정경식, 박정희, 정태자, 이진희, 최규호가 각각 선정돼 새마을운동 활성화에 기여한 공을 인정받았다.
박주섭 총무새마을과장은 “한 해 동안 새마을운동 활성화에 힘쓰신 새마을지도자 여러분들의 활발한 활동과 봉사 덕분에 이와 같은 큰상을 받을 수 있었다”라며 “앞으로도 다각적인 활동을 통해 경주시 새마을의 힘을 보여 주시길 바란다” 고 말했다.
