효성티앤씨는 지난 4월 베트남 바리우붕따우성에 총 1조원을 투자해 연산 20만톤의 바이오 BDO 생산 공장을 신설한다는 계획을 발표했다.
BDO(부탄다이올; Butanediol)는 스판덱스 섬유를 만드는 PTMG의 원료 등에 사용되는 화학 소재다. 기존의 화석 원료 대신 사탕수수나 옥수수 등 재생 가능한 식물자원 원료로 100% 대체한 제품이 바이오 BDO이다.
이번 투자로 효성티앤씨는 베트남에서 세계 최대 규모의 바이오 스판덱스 공장을 확보하게 됐다. 특히, 원료부터 섬유까지 수직계열화를 통해 바이오 스판덱스 일관생산체제를 갖추게 된 것은 세계 최초다. 효성티앤씨는 2026년 상반기부터 연산 5만톤 규모의 바이오 BDO 생산 및 판매에 들어갈 계획이다.
효성티앤씨는 남부 바리우붕따우성 공장에서 생산된 바이오 BDO를 기반으로 남부 호치민시 인근 동나이 공장에서 PTMG를 제조하고, 이를 활용해 동나이 스판덱스 공장에서 바이오 스판덱스를 양산한다.
