경북경주APEC준비지원단(단장 김상철)은 26일 경주시청 대회의실에서 공동위원장인 주낙영 경주시장 주재로 APEC PRS숙박시설추진위원회 정기회의를 개최했다.
이날 회의에는 김지준 외교부 APEC준비기획단 실장, 김남일 경북문화관광공사 사장, 정경민 도의원을 비롯해 건축 및 디자인 관련 전문가와 주요 11개 숙박시설 대표가 참석해 정상용 객실 가이드라인을 논의하고 숙박시설 자체 리모델링 계획과 건의사항을 청취했다.
PRS추진위원회는 지난 8월 월드클래스 수준의 정상용 객실 조성을 위해 이철우 도지사와 주낙영 시장을 공동위원장으로, 관련 부처와 관계 전문가, 주요 숙박시설 대표 등 22명으로 구성됐으며, 수도권 특급호텔 벤치마킹, PRS 표준모델 선정, 숙박시설 리모델링과 정상용 객실 조성의 자문 역할을 하고 있다.
특히 2025년 APEC 정상회의에 21개 회원국과 함께 서너개의 초청국 정상이 참석할 것으로 예상됨에 따라 정상용 객실 부족에 대한 우여를 불식하기 위해 25개의 PRS 객실을 조성하는 한편, 품격 있는 서비스 제공을 위해 숙박시설 관계자와 긴밀한 협의를 지속하고 있다.
한편 APEC준비지원단에서는 숙박시설의 확보와 배정, 정산 등 효율적 운영을 위해 숙박사업단을 구성하고, 특급호텔과의 업무 제휴를 통한 호텔 서비스 수준 향상, 종사자 대상 VIP 서비스 및 친절 교육, 숙박시설별 안내 데스크 운영 등 세부적인 숙박시설 운영 계획을 수립한다는 방침이다.
무엇보다 한국적 미를 가진 격조 높은 정상용 객실을 확충하고 숙박업계의 자발적 참여를 유도하기 위한 민간 분야 지원방안도 적극적으로 추진할 계획이다.
이를 위해 지난 9월 경북도와 경주시는 ‘2025 APEC 정상회의 개최 지원 조례’를 제정했으며, 지난달에는 국회 차원에서도 ‘2025 경주 APEC 정상회의 지원 특별법’이 통과되어 민간부문에 대한 재정지원 근거가 마련되어 향후 숙박 인프라 확충에도 탄력이 붙을 전망이다.
이철우 경북도지사는 “2025년 APEC 정상회의는 대한민국의 저력을 국제사회에 보여줌으로써 대한민국의 국격을 높일 수 있는 절호의 기회”라며 “정상들뿐만 아니라 경주를 찾을 세계적 기업인들도 깜짝 놀라도록 숙소를 비롯하여 정상회의 개최를 위한 제반사항을 완벽히 준비하겠다”고 말했다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “경주의 첫 인상을 심어 주는 중요한 장소인 만큼 단순한 숙박시설을 넘어 천년고도 경주의 문화 정체성과 가장 한국적인 아름다움을 체험할 수 있는 공간이 되어야 한다.”며, “APEC 참가자들이 깜짝 놀랄 정도로 시설 인프라를 확충하고 서비스 품질 향상을 통해 역대 가장 완벽한 APEC 정상회의 수용태세를 갖추는데 최선을 다 하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

On the 26th, the Gyeongbuk Gyeongju APEC Preparation Support Team (Director Kim Sang-cheol) held a regular meeting of the APEC PRS Accommodation Promotion Committee presided over by Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju, who is the co-chairman, in the conference room of Gyeongju City Hall.
The meeting was attended by Kim Ji-jun, Director of the APEC Preparation Planning Team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kim Nam-il, President of Gyeongbuk Culture and Tourism Corporation, and Jeong Gyeong-min, a member of the provincial assembly, as well as experts in architecture and design and representatives of 11 major accommodation facilities. The PRS Promotion Committee was formed in August of last year with 22 members including Governor Lee Cheol-woo and Mayor Joo Nak-young as co-chairs, related ministries, experts, and representatives of major accommodation facilities, in order to create world-class summit rooms. It is serving as an advisor for benchmarking special-class hotels in the metropolitan area, selecting PRS standard models, remodeling accommodation facilities, and creating summit rooms.
In particular, as the 2025 APEC Summit is expected to be attended by the heads of state of 21 member countries and 3-4 invited countries, 25 PRS rooms are being created to alleviate concerns about a shortage of summit rooms, and close consultations with accommodation providers are continuing to provide quality service.
Meanwhile, the APEC Preparation Support Team is forming an accommodation business unit to efficiently operate accommodation facilities, including securing, allocating, and settling accounts, and is establishing detailed accommodation operation plans, such as improving hotel service levels through business partnerships with special-class hotels, providing VIP services and courtesy education for employees, and operating information desks for each accommodation facility.
Above all, we plan to actively promote private sector support measures to expand the number of high-class summit rooms with Korean beauty and encourage voluntary participation from the accommodation industry.
To this end, Gyeongbuk Province and Gyeongju City enacted the ‘2025 APEC Summit Hosting Support Ordinance’ in September, and last month, the National Assembly passed the ‘2025 Gyeongju APEC Summit Support Special Act’, providing a basis for financial support for the private sector, which is expected to provide momentum for expanding accommodation infrastructure in the future.
Gyeongbuk Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “The 2025 APEC Summit is a golden opportunity to enhance Korea’s national prestige by demonstrating Korea’s capabilities to the international community,” adding, “We will perfectly prepare all matters related to hosting the summit, including accommodations, so that not only the summit leaders but also global businesspeople visiting Gyeongju will be surprised.”
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju said, “As it is an important place that gives the first impression of Gyeongju, it should go beyond simple accommodations and become a space where people can experience the cultural identity of the thousand-year-old capital Gyeongju and the most Korean beauty.” He added, “We will do our best to prepare for the most perfect APEC summit ever by expanding the facility infrastructure and improving the quality of service to the point that APEC participants will be surprised.”
