브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 국민의힘과 더불어민주당은 31일 혼란스런 대내외 상황을 조기에 안정시키기 위해 여야정 국정협의체를 가동하기로 합의했다.
권영세 국민의힘 비상대책위원장과 이재명 더불어민주당 대표는 이날 오후 국회 본청에서 우원식 국회의장 주재로 35분간 비공개 회동을 갖고 이같이 결정했다고 여야 대변인은 전했다.
신동욱 국민의힘 대변인은 회동 직후 기자들과 만나 "최근 혼란으로 대내외 여건이 악화되고 있어 국회와 정부가 함께 민생 현안을 다루기 위한 협의체를 조속히 가동하기로 했다"면서 "최대한 빨리 국회의장실과 양당, 정부 측이 참여하는 협의체를 가동해 외교 안보 통상, 민생 경제 이 모든 부분에 걸쳐 국정을 조속히 안정시키기로 합의했다"고 설명했다.
협의체에선 최근 제주항공 참사 수습을 위한 대책위도 운영하기로 했다. 이와 관련 조승래 민주당 대변인은 "각 정당이 서로 나눠 지원하는 것보다 국회 차원에서 체계적, 통합적으로 지원하는 것이 낫겠다는 의견이 있었다"며 "김민기 국회 사무총장과 국민의힘 여객기사고대책위원장인 권영진 의원, 민주당 항공참사대책위원장인 주철현 의원 등 3인 공동 운영체제로 구성된다"고 전했다.
우원식 의장은 이날 회동에서 여야 대표를 향해 "경제와 민생, 외교, 통상, 안보에 국회와 정부가 국정협의체로 초당적으로 힘을 모아야 할 때인 것 같다"며 "국민과 국익을 제일 앞에 놓고 난국을 헤쳐나가야 한다. 국회와 정부가 위기를 극복하기 위해 머리를 맞대는 모습이 절대적으로 필요한 때"라고 말했다.
권영세 비대위원장은 "정치복원의 첫 단계로서 여야정협의체의 조속한 시작이 필요하다"라며 "급박한 국제 정세에 대처하는 데 여야가 있을 수 없다. 특히 우리 국회가 여야간에 잘 협의해서 이런 어려움을 슬기롭게 잘 헤쳐나가는 데 큰 도움이 돼야 한다는 게 국회와 정치 역할"이라고 했다.
이재명 대표는 "국회 안에서 정치를 복원할 필요가 있고 국민들의 불안을 최소화하기 위한 노력들, 국정 안정을 위해 할 수 있는 노력에 최선을 다해야겠다는 생각"이라며 "가능하면 정쟁적 요소가 있는 것들보다는 민생과 경제, 외교·안보 같은 꼭 필요한, 당장 해야할 중요한 일들에 집중하면 좋겠다"고 강조했다.
