최상목 대통령 권한대행 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관이 7일 전날 북한의 중거리급 탄도미사일(IRBM) 도발 관련해 "한반도·세계 안보에 대한 심각한 위협으로 정부는 굳건한 한·미동맹을 바탕으로 북 도발에 단호히 대응해 나갈 것"이라고 밝혔다.
최 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 올해 첫 국무회의 모두 발언에서 "명백한 유엔안보리 결의 위반'이라며 이같이 말했다.
그러면서 "국정 안정·민생경제 회복을 위해 절실한 마음으로 혼신의 힘을 다하겠다"며 "대한민국은 중단 없이 발전해야 하고 국민 삶은 더 나아져야 한다"며 "국민·역사 평가만 두려워하는 게 공직자 도리"라고 말했다.
이어 "독립에 대한 불굴 의지로 주권을 회복한 그 날의 의미를 새삼 되새기게 된다"며 "우리 국민 저력이라면 지금 위기도 반드시 극복할 수 있을 것"이라고 했다.

이어 "비상하고 엄중한 상황서 국무위원들이 중심 잡고 소임을 다해야 한다"며 "각 국무위원은 소관 분야 권한대행이란 사명감을 갖고 업무에 진력해 달라"고 당부했다.
또 8일부터 시작되는 정부부처 업무보고 관련해선 "올해는 평시 업무보고와는 절박함·해법·추진 속도 모든 면에서 완전히 달라야 하고, 비상 상황에 걸맞게 위기 대응 총력전이 돼야 한다"며 "이번 업무보고를 통해 당면 현안에 대한 실질 해법을 제시해야 하며 올해는 업무보고라기보단 주요 현안 해법 회의로 운영하겠다"고 밝혔다.
