대통령실이 8일 '지난 2023년 김태효 국가안보실(NSC) 제1차장이 육군첩보부대(HID)를 방문한 게 '내란 획책' 목적이었을 수 있다는 더불어민주당 측 의혹 제기를 "터무니없는 모함"이라고 일축했다.
대통령실은 이날 오후 언론 공지에서 김병주 민주당 의원 주장에 대한 김 차장 입장을 전한 가운데 "김 차장은 지난 2023년 6월 초 정보당국 관계자들과 HID 부대를 방문했다"며 "군사 아닌 외교 참모 김 차장이 HID 부대를 찾은 건 대북정책을 담당하기 때문"이라고 했다.
김 차장은 "1년 7개월 전 재작년에 있던 군부대 격려 방문을 12월 3일 계엄 선포와 연결짓는 건 터무니없는 비약"이라며 "계엄 당일 계룡대 소재 지하벙커에 가거나 관련 인사와 접촉한 사실도 전혀 없다"고 했다.
그러면서 "짜놓은 각본에 억지로 끼워 맞추려는 아니면 말고식 모함·선전 선동이 연일 이어지고 있다"며 "아무리 반복해도 없는 일이 있는 일이 될 수 없다"고 덧붙였다.
앞서 김 의원은 이날 오전 국회운영위에서 "믿을만한 제보에 의하면 김 차장이 강원권 북파공작 특수부대 HID 부대를 방문한 적 있다"며 "윤석열 대통령도 같이 가려 했는데 대통령은 취소되고 김 차장이 간 것"이라고 주장했다.
또 "HID는 비밀부대라 육군 대장까지 한 전투병과 장군들도 갈 수 없다"며 "이미 오래 전부터 북파공작원을 이용해 내란을 획책한 의도가 아닌가 심히 의심스럽다"고 주장했다.
