삼성증권이 기획재정부로부터 일반환전 업무 인가를 받았다고 14일 발표했다. 이로써 삼성증권의 모바일 트레이딩 시스템(MTS)인 'mPOP'에서 여행, 유학 자금 등 다양한 일반환전 서비스가 가능해진다.
이번 일반환전 인가는 2023년 7월 기획재정부가 증권사도 개인 및 기업 고객을 대상으로 일반환전 업무를 수행할 수 있도록 외국환거래규정을 신설한 데 따른 것이다. 이후 여러 증권사들이 일반환전 업무 인가를 신청해왔다.
삼성증권은 일반환전 업무를 위해 내부통제 조직, 전산 설비, 규정 준수 절차 등을 마련했다. 이를 통해 고객들은 은행 방문 없이도 'mPOP'에서 직접 환전할 수 있게 된다. 삼성증권은 연내에 환전 서비스를 출시할 계획이며, 이를 통해 증권 투자와 여행, 유학 비용 환전 모두 처리할 수 있다. 개인 투자자뿐만 아니라 기업 고객을 위한 서비스도 준비 중이다.
삼성증권 관계자는 "고객 선호도 조사를 통해 경쟁력 있는 서비스를 제공할 것"이라며, "증권사의 강점을 살린 환전 및 외환 서비스를 단계적으로 출시할 예정"이라고 밝혔다.
Samsung Securities Authorized for General Currency Exchange Business
Samsung Securities announced today that it has been authorized by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to conduct general currency exchange business. This authorization will enable Samsung Securities' mobile trading system (MTS), mPOP, to provide various general currency exchange services such as travel and study funds.
The general currency exchange authorization follows the July 2023 revision of the Foreign Exchange Transaction Regulations by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, which allows securities firms to conduct general currency exchange services for individual and corporate customers. Since then, several securities firms have applied for authorization to conduct general currency exchange business.
Samsung Securities has prepared an internal control organization, computer facilities, and compliance procedures for the currency exchange business. This will allow customers to exchange currency directly at the 'mPOP' without visiting a bank. Samsung Securities plans to launch a currency exchange service later this year, which will allow customers to exchange money for both securities investments and travel and study expenses. The service will be available not only for individual investors but also for corporate clients.
“We will provide competitive services through customer preference surveys,” said a Samsung Securities representative, ”and we will launch currency exchange and foreign exchange services that capitalize on the strengths of the securities company in stages.”
