윤석열 대통령이 19일 서울서부지법 소요 사태에 "새벽까지 자리 지킨 많은 국민들의 억울하고 분노하는 심정은 충분히 이해하나 평화적 방법으로 의사를 표현해 달라"고 옥중입장문을 냈다.
윤 대통령 변호인단은 이날 오후 보도자료를 내고 "대통령은 오늘 새벽 서울서부지법서 발생했던 상황을 전해 듣고 크게 놀라며 안타까워했다"며 이 같이 윤 대통령 입장을 전했다.
그러면서 "대통령이 특히 청년들이 다수 포함돼 있다는 소식에 가슴 아파하며 물리적 방법으로 해결하려는 건 국가적으론 물론 개인에도 큰 상처가 될 수 있다며 우려했다"며 "경찰도 강경 대응보다 관용적 자세로 원만하게 사태를 풀어나가길 바란다는 뜻을 밝혔다"고 전했다.
이어 "비상계엄 선포가 국가비상사태에 준하는 국정 혼란 상황에서 오로지 대한민국 헌정질서 붕괴를 막고 국가 기능을 정상화하기 위한 것이었음에도 이런 정당한 목적이 제대로 전달되지 못하고 있어 안타까움을 표했다"고 전했다.
또 "사법 절차에서 최선을 다해 비상계엄 선포 목적·정당성을 밝힐 것"이라며 "시간이 걸리더라도 포기않고 잘못된 것들을 바로잡겠다"고 했다.
한편 윤 대통령은 이날 고위공직자범죄수사처(공수처)의 오후 2시 출석 요구에 응하지 않은 가운데 윤 대통령 수사 변호인단·탄핵심판 대리인단 공보 역할을 맡은 윤갑근 변호사는 "공수처에선 더 말할 게 없다"고 했다.
