【브레이크뉴스 경주】박희경 기자=동국대학교 WISE캠퍼스는 경북지역 초등학생을 대상으로 1월 6일부터 1월 17일까지 2주간 ‘2024 겨울 행복한 영어학교’를 운영했다고 20일 밝혔다.

동국대 WISE캠퍼스에서 시행하는 ‘행복한 영어학교’ 프로그램은 경상북도 교육청 지원사업으로 경주, 포항, 영천 지역의 약 330명의 초등학생들이 신청하여 최종 150명을 선정했다.
‘행복한 영어학교’는 교육수요자의 다양한 의견을 프로그램에 반영해 2주간 매일 3시간씩 레벨테스트를 통한 수준별 10개의 분반을 구성하여 다양한 주제에 따라 활동 중심의 생활영어 수업을 진행했다.
수업은 동국대 WISE캠퍼스 교양융합교육원 외국어교육부 소속 외국인 교수들과 WISE캠퍼스 재학생들로 이루어진 보조강사(TA)들이 한 그룹을 형성해 진행하였으며 참가 학생 및 학부모를 대상으로 만족도 조사를 통해 지속적으로 프로그램을 개선해 나갈 계획이다.
동국대 WISE캠퍼스 강종임 교양융합교육원장은 “행복한 영어학교는 지역의 초등학생들이 놀이를 통해 영어를 배울 수 있는 프로그램으로 기획되었다”며 “이를 통해 지역 초등학생들이 영어에 대한 자신감을 가지고 긴 겨울방학을 알차게 보내고 글로벌 인재로 거듭날 수 있기를 기대한다“고 말했다.

Dongguk University WISE Campus Operates ‘Happy English School’ to Learn from Native-Speaking Professors
Dongguk University WISE Campus announced on the 20th that it operated the ‘2024 Winter Happy English School’ for elementary school students in the Gyeongbuk region for two weeks from January 6 to January 17.
The ‘Happy English School’ program implemented at Dongguk University WISE Campus is a Gyeongsangbuk-do Office of Education-supported project, and approximately 330 elementary school students from Gyeongju, Pohang, and Yeongcheon applied, and 150 were ultimately selected.
The ‘Happy English School’ reflected the diverse opinions of education seekers into the program, and divided the students into 10 classes by level through a level test for 3 hours every day for 2 weeks, and conducted activity-oriented English classes based on various topics.
The class was conducted by a group of foreign professors from the Department of Foreign Language Education at the Dongguk University WISE Campus Liberal Arts Convergence Education Institute and teaching assistants (TAs) who are WISE Campus students. The program will be continuously improved through a satisfaction survey of participating students and their parents.
Dongguk University WISE Campus Liberal Arts Convergence Education Institute Director Kang Jong-im said, “The Happy English School was planned as a program where local elementary school students can learn English through play,” and added, “Through this, we hope that local elementary school students will gain confidence in English, spend the long winter vacation meaningfully, and grow into global talents.”
