임채성 세종시의장이 22일 집행부와 협치를 위한 첫 발을 뗐다.
임 의장은 이날 오전 최민호 시장을 만나 덕담을 나눈 뒤, 올해 시정의 주요 현안에 대해 의견을 나눴다.
임 의장은 “지난해 시민들께 협력과 화합보다는 대립과 갈등의 모습을 보여드려 많은 걱정을 끼쳤다”며 “올해는 의회와 집행부가 시민만을 바라보며 함께 힘을 모아가자”라고 밝혔다.
이어 “최근 우리 시가 정부의 문화도시 사업에 선정되는 등 행정수도뿐 아니라 다양한 분야에서 풍요로운 도시로 도약을 준비하고 있어 기대가 크다”며 “시민들이 세종시에 산다는 것에 자부심을 느낄 수 있도록 함께 노력하겠다”고 말했다.

오후에는 최교진 교육감을 만나 교육 현안에 대해 의견을 나눴다.
임 의장은 “세종교육이 2025학년도 대학입시에서 눈에 띄는 성과를 거둔 것으로 알고 있다”며 “이는 세종교육공동체가 한마음으로 노력해 온 결과”라고 평가했다. 이어 “고교무상교육과 관련해서 매우 우려스러운 상황인 것 같다”며 “다른 사업까지 여파가 있을 수 있는 만큼 의회도 적극 돕겠다”고 강조했다.
또, “우리 아이들이 세종시를 이끌어갈 민주시민으로 성장하는 것은 물론 마음껏 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 의회도 교육청과 함께 최선을 다하겠다”라고 강조했다.
이날 시장, 교육감과의 만남은 신년 인터뷰 등에서 밝힌 의지를 실현하기 위한 협치의 첫걸음으로 평가된다.
