최상목 대통령 권한대행 경제부총리 겸 기획재정부 장관이 4일 미국의 캐나다·멕시코 관세 유예 조치 관련해 "관세 부과 조치가 한 달간 연기돼 매우 다행스럽게 생각한다"고 밝혔다.
최 권한대행은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 정부서울청사에서 열린 '대외경제현안간담회'를 주제하며 이같이 말한 후 "다만 미국 관세 조치·각국 대응이 이어질 경우 우리 수출·경제 전반 불확실성이 확대될 수 있다"고 진단했다.
그러면서 "향후 유럽연합(EU) 등으로 미국 관세 조치가 확대될 가능성도 있다"며 "정부는 불확실성 속에서 우리 경제에 미칠 부정적 영향 최소화를 위해 가능한 수단을 모두 강구해 체계적으로 대응하겠다"고 밝혔다.
이어 "모든 가능성을 열어두고 '대외경제현안간담회' '진출기업간담회' 등 협의체를 통해 전개 양상을 면밀히 모니터링 하고 우리 업계에 미칠 영향을 다각도로 점검하겠다"며 "미국 신정부 인사들과도 적극 소통해 우리 입장이 최대한 반영될 수 있도록 노력할 것"이라고 했다.
또 "유사 입장을 가진 주요국과도 정보를 공유하고 대응 방안을 모색하겠다"며 "우리 업계 애로 해소를 위한 지원도 아끼지 않겠다"고 했다.
더불어 "관세 부과 대상국 진출 중소기업 지원을 위한 헬프데스크를 운영하고, 불가피한 생산 조정으로 인한 유턴기업 등에 대한 지원 대책도 마련하겠다"며 "정부는 어떤 상황에도 우리 기업·경제를 최우선으로 신속 대응해 불확실성 파고를 헤쳐 나가겠다"고 덧붙였다.
